Motorcycle keys are not just smaller car keys

Motorcycle keys come in a few flavors. Older bikes use simple mechanical keys with no chip. Newer bikes use transponder keys similar to cars. Some premium models use proximity smart keys. The keying systems are usually proprietary to the brand, which means a typical hardware store cannot cut them.

We work on most major motorcycle brands. For lost-key situations, we can often generate a new key from the bike's ignition or from a code if you have it. For transponder bikes, we cut and program at the bike. For some newer Harley smart keys and certain BMW models, the work is more involved and we will tell you what to expect on the call.

Ignition issues are common

Bikes live outside more than cars do. Ignition cylinders pick up rain, dust, and corrosion much faster. The result is a bike that suddenly won't start — not because anything electrical is wrong, but because the wafers in the cylinder have seized. We clean, rebuild, or replace the cylinder on site.

Saddlebag and trunk locks

Touring bikes often have separate locks for the saddlebags and top trunk. These wear, lose keys, and corrode just like ignition cylinders. We can rekey the saddlebag locks to match a new ignition key when we are already there.
